Dry and boring stuff about my family, books I am reading, and thoughts on issues from an Anabaptist/Mennonite Perspective.

Two to go…

untitled.bmp…for the iPod shuffle referred to here. Thanks so far to: Richard, Beth, Japheth, Joe, Marc, Andrew, Seth, and Jordan.

It appears that a bunch of other people are talking about this offer from WOWIO, and some have commented on receiving their iPods.

UPDATE: Thanks to Kirby and lawtay58 for the last two sign-ups. Coming soon: tech review on a popular Apple product.

** WARNING: PHOTO BRAG ALERT **

May 16th, 2007

Having recently crowed about my wife’s photographic abilities, I was pleased this evening to have my relatively biased opinion dramatically endorsed by none other than the Prestigious Wal-Mart One-Hour Photo Center.

Yesterday Michelle and my brother’s wife got together to take pictures of our children for my parents. I was off work today and wanted to finish getting our garden in, but it rained and we decided to go shopping and pick up some prints and a frame for the pictures.

Before we left I uploaded the photos to Wal-Mart’s online photo center and ordered them for one-hour pickup. We left right away and in the course of our shopping picked up the order. We framed one of them for my folks and dropped it off on the way home.

When we got home there was an interesting message on the answering machine. It was from Wal-Mart’s one-hour photo processing center. The lady who left the message hemmed and hawed and said that in order for them to process the order they would need to see the originals… to prove that they were not professionally taken. Michelle checked the envelope that contained the photos and sure enough there was a note to check the originals. The store clerk must have missed it, thankfully. It would have been a real pain to have to make another hour-long trip to prove that the pictures were in fact professionally taken (ahem) but not by a professional.

** END BRAG SESSION **

Update on the Twins

May 16th, 2007

Stephanie’s twins are home from the hospital and are both doing very well and gaining weight. Julie is still on oxygen but the visiting nurse told them today that she will soon be able to do without it.

Now for the hospital bills. :(

WOWIO – Great ebooks for free!

May 13th, 2007

Here is a great site for free ebooks. That is, books in pdf format for digital reading. There’s a lot of junk but also some good stuff particularly in the history section. These are books that are normally pretty expensive but all are available for free download (limit 5 per day I think) because they feature ads by sponsoring companies such as Verizon for instance.

Looks like they have a new book of the month feature which you can just grab right on the homepage without going through the shopping cart hassle.

Now here’s a neat promotion these folks are doing. If you can get ten people to reference your e-mail address when signing up or else respond to an e-mail invitation, you supposedly receive a free iPod shuffle. So if you want to check this site out, mention my e-mail address mike (at) mikefisher.org when you register for an account or else let me know and I’ll send you an invite. I’ll let you know how I like the pod.

Prayer Request

May 2nd, 2007

You might pray for the twins mentioned in the previous post. They are both in ICU with RSV. Although they are expected to pull through, there will be a long hospital stay and a very long recovery.

Thank you.
