My husband’s watermelon!
September 26th, 2007He grew a 42 lb. watermelon! This is not a fishy story because he got the bathroom scales out to weigh it. I’d love to report to you all that the scales weigh heavy, but I’m afraid not.

For the last several years we have been privileged to have as neighbors a Hispanic family that moved up from near Washington, DC. They have eight children and are very conscientious and good neighbors. Today the mother and some of the children stopped by to visit with my wife. They talked about some of the treatment they have gotten. Someone driving by their house once rolled down his window and yelled, “Go back where you came from!” They take their mailbox inside every night because it has been destroyed so many times. They are US citizens. They obviously though are the victim of the stereotype that many people have concerning Hispanics, thinking of them as illegal immigrants who are invading the country. Once you get to know people it is amazing how you often find that they don’t fit the stereotype you’ve created.
